Mas des Ocres, Roussillon, Luberon

Sleeps 12

€7,700 - €11,950 per week

This area of the Luberon is really worthwhile visiting. Within easy driving distance of each other, the ancient hilltop villages of Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Menerbes and Goult seduce and charm those who are lucky enough to stumble across them. Sitting atop its ochre cliffs, looking out over the surrounding vineyards, orchards and olive groves, the spectacularly coloured village of Roussillon and its surrounds are a perfect base to explore Provence or simply to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the Provencale countryside.

Mas des Ocres, an 18th century farmhouse, has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated by the English owners using traditional Roussillon stone, exposed, lime washed beams, walls rendered using traditional methods and colours and stone flooring. The old, thick, stone walls keep the house cool in summer and with high quality fittings and furnishings and wonderful amenities throughout, Mas des Ocres is perfect for a memorable family or multi person/family holiday.

Built over several levels, the double front door is up a flight of steps from the landscaped drive. Off the impressive hall is the well designed and fully equipped kitchen which in turn has access to the wrap around terrace with a large dining and seating area. One of the bedrooms also opens onto this terrace, and is ideal for grandparents or guests, allowing them privacy from the main upstairs bedroom floor.

The impressively large, open plan sitting room (Roche Bobois sofas) and dining room (seats 12) are a few steps down from the hall or kitchen. Underneath the kitchen is an old vaulted cellar which can be used as an atmospheric dining room ideal for your own personal wine tasting or intimate dinner. Off the main dining room is a TV room (Roche Bobois sofas) and this in turn gives access to the well equipped gym.

Upstairs, there are an additional 5 bedrooms (three ensuite) and a family bathroom. The bedrooms are notable for their feeling of space and volume as well as their high quality beds (Duxiana beds, Beaumont and Brown linen/towels) and relaxing ambiance.

Apart from the terrace off the kitchen, there is a further large, shaded terrace at the front of the house (south facing with seating and dining area) looking across the lawns to the pool area, where there is a shaded pergola with banquettes and table. Another pergola area at the other end of the pool provides further shade. Loungers for 12 plus beach towels are provided along with 2 hammocks.

Overlooking the pool, there is a small raised terrace shaded by an oak tree – perfect for that evening aperitif as the sun goes down!

What Sarah thinks:

“You really don’t get the sense of how large this house is from the photos. There is plenty of space for everyone, large bedrooms and bathrooms, masses of terraces and corners to hide away with a book. Mas des Ocres really does allow you to choose – use it as base to explore or simply relax and enjoy a chilled glass of wine in beautiful, relaxing surroundings, whichever takes your fancy! As an added bonus, the nearby picturesque village of Roussillon has something for everyone.”

Client Reviews:

“Firstly we wanted to thank you for such a lovely hamper of goodies – from the olive oil and balsamic vinegar to the stunning fruit and vegetables from Le Petit Charreton – everything was treasured and savoured.

Secondly, we wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed staying in your stunning property. The house and grounds have obviously been restored with love and care, honouring local building traditions, and we can honestly say it is one of the loveliest (if not the loveliest) villas we have ever rented. The design of the outdoor areas was perfect for us; with an active nearly 3 year old boy, the space for him to run around (supervised from one of the many loungers) was ideal. The pool area is simply gorgeous and the saltwater pool makes a great change from chlorine. The interiors are also divine and very cool and calming in the heat. The new air conditioning was wonderful and much needed! The kitchen is very well equipped – quite a rarity in our experience!

We hope other guests enjoy it as much as we did and we hope to come back another time and experience another wonderful holiday in Provence.”
