Maison des Bremaudieres, Bois Plage, Ile de Ré

Sleeps 10

£7,500 - £11,250 per week

This really is the perfect base on the Ile de Ré.  A stunning and contemporary beach house superbly situated just behind the dunes of Bois-Plage, two minutes’ walk from one of the best stretches (12km) of south-facing beach on the Island.  The village itself is a couple of minutes by bike and a twenty minute bike ride will take you to the lovely port of St. Martin, a UNESCO Heritage site.

The house was designed by a well known Ile de Ré architect and completed in 2012 to an exacting standard. The owners have decorated throughout in a relaxed style with touches of vibrant colour throughout complemented by original artwork and a dramatic mix of contemporary Italian and mid-century Scandinavian pieces. With a huge 100sq.m. open plan living/dining area at the heart of the house and sliding windows opening East and West, the house is full of sunlight and perfect for that famous Ile de Ré outside living. Here you will find plenty of comfy seating around the open fireplace and a huge 3m. marble topped dining table. The well equipped kitchen is separated by a glass partition and has a breakfast bar looking out to the mimosa in the garden.

The bedroom accommodation is good and spacious with a big master suite with its own study and opening to its own courtyard. The other four bedrooms can either be doubles or twins and all have built-in desks and wardrobes. – two are in the annexe sharing a shower room – perfect for teenagers who want to be a bit self-contained or another family.

The sunny and secluded garden is tranquil and sheltered from the wind by the dunes and surrounding “parasol pines”. The pool is a really good size – 12m (long enough to do laps) – and is surrounded by a timber terrace.   The garden is well cared for with a lawned area, pretty planting and a terrace outside the house where there is sheltered dining for 10. The owners are planning a new seating area with outdoor sofa in the paved courtyard this Spring.   In the evening the wonderful outdoor suspended fireplace is great for those early summer evenings or for those seriously long nights in the middle of summer……!

The house comes with a boules pitch, table tennis, table football and a small gym but the tennis club, sailing club, surf school and water sports equipment hire are all just a ten minute bike ride away.

What Sarah thinks:

“I have a family who have returned year after year to this house. It is so well run that the grandparents find it a real pleasure to take their children and grandchildren back to this charming relaxed island.”

Client Reviews:

“We have all fallen in love with the Ile de Re and your beautiful home. We have had such a fantastic time, cycling, swimming, beach and pool fun, daily trips to the marche for great food and le vin! Loved pineau too! Thank you for all your suggestions – think we ticked most of them. Such a wonderful pace of life here – we love it!!”

“A wonderful fortnight on a wonderful island. Made all the more idyllic by a beautiful villa in the perfect location. Enjoyed by young and old (one through to 81!). Eleanor could not believe her luck by having a pool on her doorstep and she took full advantage of the wide open spaces of the villa to perfect her walking – apologies for the many handprints on the glass about two foot high! The covered market in Bois Plage was a delight and your restaurant recommendations were spot on. Bicycles were an essential and thoroughly enjoyed. We shall definitely return.”

“We have had an absolutely terrific time – thank you for letting us use your home. Swimming, beaching, exploring – it’s been a blast. The perfect place for a family holiday”

“What a fabulous house in a wonderful place. Everyone so kind, friendly and welcoming. What more can one ask. Except to pack everything, including Jerome, into our suitcases and take it all back to London………..!!”

“We’ve had a wonderful stay in Ile de Re this year and we are so happy to have found it! You have a beautiful house here and we feel privileged to have been welcomed through the doors. Having stayed many times in St. Martin de Re, we feel we are now converted to Le Bois Plage! I hope to return soon.”

“…..It was an early celebration for Georgie’s 21st and the cook was legitimately Michelin level. The food and presentation were exquisite (I am in the food business so can credibly evaluate). So we leave the house happy, rested and a few pounds heavier than when we arrived……….Merci, magnifique!”

“What a fantastic week.   The house is stunning and ideal for 5 with 3 adult kids. Proximity to the beach is fantastic, the markets amazing. Cycling was fantastic, the oyster restaurants on the beach north west of St. Martin de Re were a great find – excellent stopping point for a ride. 2 rounds of golf at La Rochelle were sensational, the course is a gem. Highlight – had to be Jerome cooking for us one night……….”
